Harnesses
The modern power kite harness is very similar to a windsurfing harness and operates in much the same way. It is primarily used when the power of the kite is in such extremes that your arms just can't hang on. Such as kite surfing or buggying (in extreme winds).
Virtually all kites whether with two or four line handles or with a bar can be used with a harness.
The other main advantage of a harness (apart from resting your arms) is that on a buggy or surfboard it puts the power where you need it, aiding balance. In addition, it allows you to take your hands off the kite to turn your buggy over, position your surfboard or do somethingtrivial such as getting your phone out of your pocket!
The kites handles are attached to the harness via a strop line that connects to the top of both handles, forming a loop that can be easily hooked and de-hooked. Should you fall, the theory is that you will automatically unhook from the harness buy you must be aware of your actions for your own safety.
