Air Born Kites was founded by Estelle Barton and Paul Thody in August 1991, four years after their first (adult!) power kite flying experience. The first Brighton-based shop was opened in December of that year selling a variety of stunt kites, power kites, kite accessories and air toys.
In March 1999 we opened a second retail outlet in Bluewater Park complex just off J2, M25. With two outlets, many experienced staff and with years in the trade, we feel that we have a lot to offer.
All the Air Born Kites staff team are long term kite fliers and have immersed
themselves in all the varied aspects of kite flying with particular
emphasis on sport and power kiting, to some very extreme levels; as featured in our gallery.
If kites or power kites are your thing then Air Born Kites is the place to go (at least we and our kite flying customers think so). If kites are not your thing, then you probably haven't flown a kite as an adult yet!
Kite flying as an adult is really quite different than flying kites as a child and the physical exertion of kite flying can be awesome from some of our power kites. Kite flying is a very popular sport for all ages. We are sure that whatever style of kite flying you enjoy, you will be able to find the right kite for you. Our experienced staff will always be more than willing (and able) to help you select a kite that suits your flying experience; be that "none at all" or "flown for years".
We offer lessons in power kiting, kite surfing, kite buggying and kite mountain boarding - all by recognised instructors (please click on tuition above for further information). We also perform event demos, run kite making work shops and we will build custom kites and banners - please send us a written spec. for a quote. A full repair service is also available for all our kites (most kites these days are designed to be repairable).
